IBM's patent record continues    

For the fourteenth consecutive year IBM has won the most number of US patents in the year 2006 by securing 3,621 patents. Thrilled with its consistent success, IBM has announced that an 'Investors Forum' will be developed and hosted by it. The Investors Forum is a platform where ideas on the patent system as viewed by smaller enterprises can be shared and debated.A number of individuals and small and mid-sized companies have agreed to participate in the forum.

Lawsuit over Bluetooth patents 

Washington Research Foundation has sued Nokia, Samsung and Panasonic for infringement of its Bluetooth patents. The Research Foundation alleges that the Bluetooth equipped handsets of the companies infringes six patents of the Washington University and claims for a permanent injunction restraining the companies from further manufacturing Bluetooth equippped devices. The Washington Research Foundation had earlier granted a licence for Bluetooth chipsets to Broadcom.

Eastman Kodak and Sony cross-license

The long standing patent dispute over digital camera inventions between Eastman Kodak and Sony has come to an end through a cross-license.. The companies have entered into a cross-licensing deal giving the companies access to each other's patents. The terms and conditions of the cross-license have not been disclosed.
